Some may call me silly for thinking this way but God has given me a purpose to fulfill in my own unique way with all the unique characteristics and gifts that He so graciously blessed me with. If I walk in what He’s given ME, how can there be any competition? So, every day I seek to empower another young lady to walk in her gifts and purpose! It’s #TheSuccessFULWay!

In undergrad, I majored in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. As a child, I had a love for science that came second to my love for math and my initial goal was to one day become a pediatrician (until I went back to my first love ;)). I was always so fascinated by God’s creation and the intricate detail He put into each of us. Think about your DNA. The whole structure of DNA is the same, but the combinations of bases are different. Those bases and genes determine our characteristics. The only way for two people to have the same DNA is if they are identical twins. Take it a step further and think about our fingerprints. Research says that “the detailed ‘minutiae’ – where skin ridges meet – are different even between identical twins.” No two fingerprints are alike. If God took the time to make us each that unique, why should we live our entire life in comparison to others.
Comparison robs us of our uniqueness.
We weren’t created to be exactly the same. Not only is our biology unique, but once we begin to live our lives, we have unique experiences and perspectives that can even make the exact same experience lived by two individuals seem completely different. All of this shapes who and what we become; how we function in life. It gives you your own unique personality and your personality should shine through everything that you do.
I’m currently enrolled in two courses that are helping me to create a cool new product for nonprofit executives and managers (check it out here: www.exemptconscious.com). One of the assignments included an exercise that encouraged exploring your personality traits so that you could make sure your personality was infused into the product. In taking this exercise a step further, I asked friends how they would describe me. Almost all of the individuals I asked came back with a few of the same characteristics – determined/driven, reliable/dependable, funny/witty, intelligent, compassionate/self-less, personable/lover of people, bold/adventure-lover, disciplined/hardworking, Type A.
In everything that I do, I hope that a lot of those traits shine through. If those traits shine through, it will attract a specific group of people. Because our personalities are so unique, infusing your personality into your projects, products, etc. makes each of those things just as unique as you are. This eliminates competition.
If you’re doing what you were called to do, serving the people that you were called to serve, in only the way that you can do it, who can compete?
And if someone attempts to duplicate you, they’ll fail because being someone else isn’t sustainable. This also puts in perspective why everyone isn’t meant to be your customer. There’s a select group of people you were meant to influence and/or serve. So, walk in your uniqueness with no regrets! You’re awesome and should let that awesomeness shine!
