After the launch on last Sunday, a friend girl texted to congratulate me and here’s how the conversation went….
Friend: So awesome to see you walking in your purpose. Def has me wanting to do the same.
Me: And what are you waiting on??
Friend: I have no idea where to start!
I am learning a lot of people stop themselves before they get started because of their own negative thoughts. If I could give you any advice, it would be to get rid of the pessimism (disguising as being realistic) and run far, far away from other negative people.
When you’re the thing that’s holding you back, how do you get past YOU!
It’s easy to remove Negative Nancy and Doubting Tom from your life but what in the world do you do when Negative Nancy lives in your head?
Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]. Philippians 4:8 Amplified Bible
Center Your Mind on Them, and Implant Them in Your Heart!
Many of you are saying you don’t know where to start but I think the real problem is that every time you decide to start, your thoughts stop you in your tracks. Defeating thoughts that try to make you believe that your contribution to the world isn’t really significant and therefore, not needed. Or that there are so many others who are doing what looks like the same thing, that you don’t know how yours will be unique or any different. Thoughts that you’re unprepared and not ready; even that you’re not good enough or where you need to be to help others.
As soon as these thoughts come to mind, you should compare them to the scripture above. If it doesn’t come in line with being pure, bringing peace, etc. your mind shouldn’t be centered on them. That shouldn’t be what you implant in your heart. But of course I know, that’s easier said than done.
How Do You Get Those Thoughts Out of Your Head?
You do the exact opposite. Think on those things that are in line with the scripture. What has God put in your heart for you to accomplish? Think on these things. What gifts, strengths, or attributes do your friends, colleagues, and love ones often compliment you on? Think on these things.
For those of you who subscribed through the website, you received my checklist for #IntentionalLiving. One of the steps is to “Affirm Your Truth Aloud Daily.” The best way to combat your own negative thoughts are to start the day speaking your truths. Command your day as I like to say. Your day shouldn’t control you, you should control it. In the same vein, your thoughts shouldn’t control you either, you should control them!
I’m not saying that there haven’t been times that I wasn’t afraid or even thought to myself, “girl, what have you gotten yourself into” lol. But I’ve learned to find the good in every situation and to meditate on that good. Because I’ve failed before I’m no longer afraid to fail (seems weird but true). What do I have to lose? I can either stay complacent in the life that I don’t want for myself or take a chance on the life that I want not only for myself but for my grandmothers, my parents, my sister, and eventually my own family!
I’m glad that I’ve taken the risks because had I listened to my own negative thoughts, I would not get to enjoy and live in my truth!
Start Living in Your Truth TODAY!
I encourage you to not only start living in your truth today but to consciously make sure you’re not living in your circumstances, those change; but your truth, it remains the same!
