It just dawned on me, when asked the other day, the infamous question, “What do you do?” that a lot of my new subscribers may not know a lot about my journey, my passions, and what it is I do on a day-to-day basis. In case you’re one of those new subscribers, I decided to give you a preview in today’s blog. If you’re not a new subscriber, no worries, you may have missed a few updates, and I’m also allowing you to subscribe to specific segments based on what you learn today (scroll to the bottom).
So, allow me to reintroduce myself… My name is…
Haha… some of you just started singing the song! No, my name is not Hov…. If you’re a subscriber and you don’t know my name, that would be a little weird, so I’ll focus on what it is that I do.
The Y9 Group: Nonprofit & Accounting Consultant
You’ve heard my story about how I took the leap of faith and JUMPED into entrepreneurship 7 (almost 8) years ago. The business that pushed me into true full time entrepreneurship was The Y9 Group. The Y9 Group is a boutique consulting firm that specializes in 501(c)(3) nonprofit administration and management; and general accounting services for all organizations. So, what does that mean? I help individuals create and build nonprofit organizations; and I act as a consulting CFO (chief financial officer) for smaller to mid-size organizations (both for and non-profit) providing services that include financial management functions, but also extends to working with the organizations’ boards and CEOs to translate the financials into the strategic planning process.
Interestingly enough, most of my clients are women entrepreneurs or organizations run by women! #girlPOWER Hence, my love for women entrepreneurs and the coaching that I do through this platform.
Exempt Conscious: The Nonprofit Authority!
Recently I’ve started a new project as an extension of the services offered by The Y9 Group. This project is called, Exempt Conscious. Exempt Conscious is an app designed to empower 501(c)(3) nonprofit managers and executives to create tax exempt organizations, ensure compliance, and achieve superior results by providing a knowledge-rich, DIY (do it yourself) database, step-by-step guide, and community. I’m super excited about this project because it seeks to answer and provide solutions to all of the obstacles and stumbling blocks that my clients have encountered in the past. The app is currently in pre-launch phase as we work to exceed your expectations! I’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks about what exactly will be offered and how it can enhance your experience as a nonprofit leader.
Y9 Real Estate of Wilson Realty: Real Estate Broker
So, you may be a part of the 95% of my subscribers that probably has no idea about this one…. Since January of 2010 (yep you read right, over 7 years), I’ve been a licensed real estate broker and Realtor® in the state of North Carolina. Last year, I decided to get licensed in the state of South Carolina as well. You’re probably wondering why only a few people know. After the first year or so, I started doing real estate on a referral basis and haven’t really advertised it. The Y9 Group was my main priority and in the past took up most, if not all, of my time. Doing the business on a referral basis allowed me to weed out the clients who weren’t serious and focus on those who I knew wouldn’t waste my time. But I decided to let you in on the secret because as a subscriber I know you’re serious about anything that you do. If you’re in NC or SC (or intending to move to one of those places) and need real estate help, feel free to reach out to me at Y9 Real Estate of Wilson Realty.
JD Candidate: Business & Education Law
If what I’ve mentioned above wasn’t enough, I have one more thing to add to the pot…. As a way to provide more services to my already existing clients, I decided to go to law school back in 2015. My initial focus of course was business law (including nonprofits). However, after taking a school-to-prison pipeline course (a metaphor used to describe the increasing patterns of contact students have with the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems as a result of the recent practices implemented by educational institutions, and zero tolerance policies and the use of police in schools), the fire I already had for education was reignited leading me to now pursue both business and education law (Davis Academy coming to a city near you).
Sounds like A LOT!
While I know that sounds like a lot, I’ve been very intentional about what I do and how I spend my time. It’s imperative for me to accomplish all that God has called me to do while also taking care of self and maintaining a well-balanced life. It’s #TheSuccessFULWay! It’s what I live and teach other women to do through my Dig Deeper coaching course. It really boils down to what I want to be known for:
- Empowering nonprofit managers to lead, make informed decisions, and produce superior results for their organizations.
- Helping as many women as possible find true success – satisfaction as a result of fully developing their abilities and character through determination to accomplish the reason for which they were created.
- Impacting education policy issues related to educational reform through legislative and grassroots advocacy work.
